LOCAL SAINT HONOURED
Part of the large attendance at the Mass in honour of Blessed Edward Bamber at St. Winefride's Rest Home on July 7th.
Bishop Patrick was chief concelebrant on July 3rd at the annual open air Mass in honour Blessed Edward Bamber in the grounds of St. Winefride’s retirement home for priests at Low Moor Road, Blackpool. More than a hundred people attended on a lovely summer evening and enjoyed the social gathering in the gardens afterwards.
Preaching at the Mass Canon Tom Dakin assured everyone that Blessed Edward had indeed lived in the house there. He also called for August 7th to be recognised as diocesan feast day for three of the martyrs who met their deaths on that day in Lancaster, Edward Bamber, Thomas Whittaker and John Woodcock.
