ST CUTHBERT’S, BLACKPOOL 1880 – 2005
Long before the Illuminations were ever thought of, and even before the Tower was built, a young priest called Edward Lupton was sent to start a new parish in the developing area of Blackpool’s South Shore. When he died (63 years later !) St Cuthbert's was well established in what was then a prosperous part of town, full of visitors in the season. South Shore may have gone down since then, but the parish is still very much alive. Bishop Patrick, former clergy and other visitors experienced this vitality when they came to help the parish celebrate 125 years on 3rd November. The various groups in the parish came together to provide a real liturgical celebration with a wide variety of music, followed by Hotpot in the parish hall across the road kindly offered by St Peter's C of E parish.
