SEE YOU IN EDINBURGH
MAKE POVERTY HISTORY

WHERE TO BE ON JULY 2nd
Cafod Press Release
Make history on the streets of Edinburgh as Scotland prepares to host the leaders of the eight richest nations in the world at the G8 summit.
Campaigners from across the world will be there. Will you?

MAKE POVERTY HISTORY If you are horrified by the scandal of 30,000 people dying unnecessarily from extreme poverty every day, come to Edinburgh on Saturday, 2 July - and help to make poverty history. It could be the most important thing you ever do. On the same day that Live 8 concerts in five cities across Europe and the USA will up the international pressure to end poverty, hundreds of thousands of people will converge on Edinburgh for the biggest family protest against global poverty for 20 years. In the crucial last few days of negotiations before the G8 summit, leaders of the richest nations will hear a message they cannot
ignore: Make Poverty History.

You can do it
Last time the Group of Eight (G8) summit came to the UK in 1998, 70,000 campaigners from all walks of life gathered on the streets of Birmingham to highlight the tragedy of third world debt. World leaders were rocked by the sheer scale of their peaceful mass protest, and a year later agreed to cancel large amounts of poor countries' debts. If you've never demonstrated before - this is the year to do it. If you're a veteran campaigner - this is the year to bring all your friends and family.
