Requiem Mass For Pope John Paul II
The Cathedral, Friday, April 6th.

The Cathedral was packed – standing 5 deep at the back, with at least 40 priests concelebrating with Bishop Patrick. Bishop Hugh Lindsay preached. Fr Marian Jachym of the Polish Church offered one of the Intercessions for the Pope in Polish during Mass, to which the many Polish people in the congregation responded.. A lady from the Polish Church sang a hymn at the beginning as young people from the diocese carried forward various symbols representing the Pope and presented them to Bishop Patrick. Mr Bogdan Barski processed with the flag of the Polish church which was placed during Mass near the shrine of the Pope. The parish choir was joined by members of the diocesan choir and sang magnificently under the direction of Canon Stephen Shield. The Cathedral organist, Paul McFadden played.
