March 2005 Edition

SOMETHING'S BUZZING
YOU SHOULD BE TOLD

A lot of things can in a diocese in the space of a month. Groups, schools, parishes, all have interesting and sometimes inspiring things to report, but at the end of each month The Voice is forced to choose. Inevitably some interesting things get left out. Enter, "THE BUZZ". The Buzz is a weekly news update sent out by email to all on our contact list unless they ask us not to do so. To date only four out 246 have said "no thanks". A weekly news sheet can help make us more aware of ourselves as a family in God's service. Here are just a few items from recent BUZZES. It will give you some idea of what is on offer and if you too would like a weekly Buzz, just send an email to voicechain@aol.com and say simply, Buzz me Please. You can always drop out again at any time. Samples from the last three weeks.

PASSION PLAY.
On Saturday 19th March at 7.30 pm a Passion Play will be performed at St. Mary of Furness, Duke St, Barrow-in-Furness by the Clydach SVP theatre group. Bishop Patrick hopes to attend. The play is a moving interpretation of a traditional Passion play and uses the latest theatrical techniques in lighting, sound, make-up, and costume. The play is used to fund the SVP's Swansea soup run, Free Legal Help Clinic, and Furniture Scheme. Tickets £4. Ring Nick Donnelly on 01229 821866

PHOTOCOPIER:

TSUNAMI DISASTER APPEAL:
To date, (January 26th) 26 parishes have reported collections amounting to ££53,309 an average of £2050 per parish. Most parishes have not sent news to The BUZZ but from other sources it seems likely that £2000 is about right for the average of all parishes throughout the diocese, especially as some are including Grant Aid, yet to be calculated. Schools have been active too. St Mary's High School in Blackpool for instance raised £4,076.11. Safe to say that the diocese as a whole contributed around £200,000. The BUZZ will NOT be reporting any more news under this heading.

LOURDES:
Bishop Patrick would like every parish to sponsor a sick person and a young person on the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. Every year a number of sick pilgrims need to be helped by the Lourdes Sick Fund, it would be great if every parish held a fund raising event. Volunteers are needed to help with the pilgrimage, - priests, doctors, nurses, auxiliary carers, clerical workers.

THE "PARISH PRIEST" IS SEVENTY-FIVE
Over 100 parishioners and friends, including Anglican Bishop, Cyril Ashton and Baptist minister, Paul Lavender descended on Holy Family at Ingol, Preston, to celebrate Fr. Peter Dolan's 75th birthday. Bishop Ashton came all the way from his Diocese of Doncaster and Paul Lavender made it from just round the corner at Tanterton Christian Fellowship. The evening took the form of an agape followed by a cabaret provided by various members of the Parish. Picture and story from Peter Reed

"Many happy returns Peter, from all at the Voice. But at 75 you're not supposed to look so young".
