We were greatly saddened this week by the death of Mr. Gerard Knight, who died in hospital on Thursday evening after a courageous struggle against cancer. Gerard's first appointment to the role of church organist was at St. William's church in Longridge as a boy of fourteen. He most recently served the parish of St. Anthony in Fulwood for almost twenty-five years. He organised the music and played the organ at the 11.00 Mass every Sunday and also many other services as and when required. He was always available and willing to play at fu-nerals, weddings, services for the sick, stations of the cross, as well as the major feasts of Christmas and Easter. The serv-ice he has given to the parish over many years in incalculable. Although his priority was always St Anthony's, he has been available for other parishes when they have asked for his services. He will be sadly missed by very many people. Our sympathy and condolences go to his wife, Dorothy, his daughter Janet, and to all the members of his family. May he rest in peace.
