KNIGHTS REMEMBERED AT THE SHRINE

By P.C. Wilcock

Ladyewell For many years members of the Knights of St Columba have supported and assisted at events at Ladywell shrine at Fernyhalgh - assisting in parking cars, directing pilgrims, marshalling and taking the all important collections for the upkeep of the shrine. The Brothers turn out in all kinds of weather during the year. Two of their members Brother John Embery and Brother Jack Burke could always be relied upon to be there, 'to do their duty. Sadly both of these men have now passed away. However in true Knight’s form - they will not be forgotten. At a recent service at Ladyewell, plaques were blessed and placed in the cell of remembrance at Ladyewell. They are alongside other plaques and included with those are plaques remembering Brothers Cyril Turner and Geny Higney who were also keen helpers at Ladyewell.
