Lourdes Youth Pilgrimage 2005

The Diocese of Lancaster Youth Pilgrimage in July incorporated some 70 youth from all parts of the diocese. Anna Rowlands and myself led the pilgrimage. Fr Andrew Allman was our chaplain and Deacon Philip Connor, his assistant. The young people themselves were heavily involved in caring for the sick, giving freely of their time and showing commendable care and compassion. They also played a major role in the liturgical and spiritual side of things. This included the main Diocesan events such as the Procession of the Blessed Sacrament, reconciliation service, and the mass at the Grotto with Westminster and Brentwood diocese. But perhaps most will remember best Lancaster Diocese leading the Marion procession on the Tuesday night. Gabriella Brown from Lancaster put it like this, “carrying the candle and being at the front and able to look at all the other pilgrims in the procession was one the best times in my life.” Ryan Mahon from Blackpool said that he would “treasure the memories for the rest of his life.”
