Friday/Saturday, 16th - 17th September, 2005, Workshop on Gregorian Chant by Dr. Mary Berry. world authority on Gregorian Chant, is to conduct a workshop at St Peter's Cathedral, Lancaster. As part of a major review of music in the liturgy Pope Benedict calls for the revival of Gregorian Chant in parishes. Fr Jerome Ainsworth to be Parish Priest of St Catherine, Penrith. Fr Andrew Allman recently ordained to be assistant priest in the Cathedral Parish. Fr Dunstan Cooper, Parish Priest of St Mary, Morecambe to take on the care of the Parish of the Good Shepherd, Torrisholme. Fr Joseph Maley, Good Shepherd, Torrisholme, to be Parish Priest of St Gregory’s Preston. Fr William Glasswell now resident for the time being at St Winifride's, Blackpool. Fr Stephen Pearson, goes from St Gregory, Preston to be Parish Priest of St Bemadette, Blackpool. Fr Luiz Ruscillo at present at St Bernadettes’ Blackpool to be Head of the Diocesan Education Service, and Parish Priest of St Mary, Homby - Our Lady Immaculate, Caton, with pastoral care and responsibility for St Joseph's, Kirkby Lonsdale. Fr Aidan Turner has been appointed Episcopal Vicar for Ecumenical Affairs throughout the diocese and Canon (honoury) of the Cathedral Chapter. Mr Stephen Moore, Diocesan Trustee, to be Financial Administrator of the diocese. Fr Robert Billing is now Secretary to the Trustees. Father Tom Hoole leaves Holy Trinity and St George, Kendal to be Parish Priest at St Mary's, Fernyhalgh. He will also be Director of Ladyewell Shrine.

HELPING THE BLIND:
Galloways society for the blind who already record the Voice for blind people are looking for volunteers to offer a Friday afternoon once a month as part of a team to record the Universe. Recordings will be each Friday afternoon and tapes/cd's will be despatched across the country, for people to receive them on Saturday. PILGRIMAGE YOUTH WALK (8-11 September)
This challenging and hopefully prayerful experience is open to youth of the diocese (aged 16-25yrs). The cost, which includes accommodation, is £40.00. The pilgrimage walk begins on Thursday 8 September (5.00 p.m.) in the Langdale valley, arriving in Cleator on Sunday September 11 (about 3.00pm) to join other pilgrims for the Celebration of Mass. PRESTON SCHOOL JUBILEE:
St. Augustine's Primary School, Preston, celebrates its Ruby Jubilee this year. It is forty years since the "new" building was opened and a celebration is planned for Friday, 30th. September. The evening will begin with Mass in the St. Augustine's New Avenham Centre at 7 p.m. There will then be speeches followed by refreshments in the school halls. All former members of staff and pupils are invited as are all priests who have served in St. Augustine's Parish. Please put this date in your diary and join us for this special celebration.
'THE YEAR OF THE EUCHARIST'
In response to the call of the Holy Father to mark 'the Year of the Eucharist' (October 2004 - October 2005), special Eucharistic Celebrations have been arranged for the different areas of the diocese. St Mary's, Cleator (Sunday 11 September) at 3.00pm.(While this celebration is open to the entire diocese it is directed especially to the northern section).

HELP WITH ADDICTION:
The Cenacolo Community has been established at Dodding Green in this Parish. It is a community of young men who are overcoming additions of various kinds. Part of their charism is to reach out to others who suffer addictions. Accordingly, they are to hold meetings for addicts and their families in the Parish Centre, New Road, Kendal, each Thursday at 8pm beginning on September 8th. Help is available through the Cenacolo Community who will be holding weekly meetings in the Catholic Parish Centre, New Road, Kendal, beginning on Thurs 8th Sept, 8 - 9pm.
