TRIBUTES TO RETIRING HEAD

At the end of the summer term Mr John O’Brien retired after 23 years as Head of Cardinal Allen High School in Fleetwood. Here are just a few of the glowing tributes paid to John by his colleagues, and of course, his wife.

Emma Kirkby (Pupil)

Mr O’Brien

Mr Cafferkey (Deputy Headteacher):
‘Mr O’Brien makes everyone feel valued whether they be pupil, parent or colleague and there is never an occasion when he doesn’t have time for you.’

Mrs McCarron (Chair of Governors):
‘It has been a privilege to work with John O’Brien at Cardinal Allen. He has been well respected by the governors, staff and the local families and will be much missed.’

Matthew Vincent, Pupil:
‘An inspiring leader and a terrific role model who will be greatly missed.

Mr. Murray (Assistant Headteacher):
‘Throughout his time at Cardinal Allen his number one priority has been the welfare and wellbeing of the pupils. Along with the staff they have benefited from Mr O’Brien’s support, wisdom and guidance. His faith has been a leading force in Catholic education over the last 23 years and he has lived his life true to the Gospels.’

Mr. Coughlan ( Assistant Headteacher)
‘It’s having appreciation for the constant support he gives to everyone - teachers, parents, governors and of course the pupils themselves. He is entitled to be called Dr. O’Brien, but he has chosen not to use the title and that I think says a lot about him. He always thinks about the forgotten pupil, the underdog, and that’s why he supports Tottenham Hotspur.’

Fr. John Collins:
John’s personality influenced the spirit of the school. People throughout the Diocese of Lancaster can offer their thanks for the gift of his time and talents in the mission of the Church.’

Mrs Vincent (Parent):
‘Mr O’Brien has been so dedicated to the school over the past 23 years and he will be greatly missed; but we hope that the spirit of the school will continue and we all wish Mr O’Brien and his family well for the future.’

Mrs O’Brien:
‘A colleague recently referred to John as ‘dedicated and enthusiastic’ and that is how John has been every single day of his long term at Cardinal Allen.’

Give praise to the Lord
