THE SISTERS OF THE CHRISTIAN RETREAT

By Sr. Anne Dunne

The Sisters of the Christian Retreat are launching a major new imitative to raise awareness about Religious Life and also to make our life and work better known. Eye-catching posters will be in every parish in Great Britain in time for Vocations Sunday on 7th May. This has been a big undertaking for our sisters, but a marvellous opportunity for evangelisation.

We felt it was important to communicate to people that Religious Life today is challenging, radical and different. It is a life of prayer, meditation, community and commitment. Our aim is to show that our life is a balanced and stable way of living in a world of insecurity, darkness and fear.

As Sisters of the Christian Retreat our mission is twofold: to bring people to reflect on the Word of God and to meditate on its significance for them as “Good News”. And to help people of all ages realise their full potential and to take their place in the mission of the Church.

Our founder, Fr. Anthony Receveur, began with a small group of men and women during the time of the French Revolution (circa 1789), a time when faith and morals where in decline. Today, we see a breakdown in our own society, in family life and in spiritual values. As a new global perspective emerges, we feel that our raison d’etre is as important, if not more so, in this century as it was in the 18th.

The Congregation needs new life, new blood to continue its mission of bringing people to thoughts of faith, meditation and retreat.
