February 2006 Edition

ENTERTAINMENT AT THE CATHEDRAL
St Peter’s Cathedral in Lancaster is set to host a wide range of events throughout the first half of 2006.

First off on Friday 17th of February with ‘Soldiers, Saints and Sinners,’ an evening of music and poetry from seventeenth-century England featuring instrumentalists and the Chamber Choir from the Lancaster University Music Society.

Other musical events will include a concert by the internationally known pianist Nika Shirocorad and an evening of Northumbrian folk music with Kathryn Tickell, BBC Radio 2’s Musician of the Year for 2005. The Gladly Solemn Sound, a group specializing in West Gallery music of the early nineteenth century, and the Brampton Chamber Choir will certainly be of interest to lovers of early and rare Church music, while the June Baker Singing for Pleasure group, the Harrogate Brass Band and an a cappella programme by the Lancaster-based groups the Cats Chorus and Flamin’Ada should please those with more modern tastes. During Lent the Cathedral will present ‘Kingdom Come: The Life of Christ,’ the highly acclaimed one-man show adapted from the NIV translation of the Gospels and performed by Eric Petrossian, professional actor and committed Christian.

The Cathedral has also begun a new series of Family Workshops with artist Jill Johnson; families of all shapes and sizes are invited to come along to the Cathedral Social Centre for workshops on printmaking, sculpture and rugmaking. All proceeds from these events go towards the Cathedral Organ Appeal. The schedule of events at St Peter’s Cathedral for Spring/Summer 2006 is available now in your local parish or from the Cathedral (Cathedral House, Balmoral Road, Lancaster LA1 3BT).

For tickets or further information about any of these events, please contact Caroline Hull, the Cathedral Events Co-ordinator, at Cathedral House (tel: 01524 384820; email: events@lancastercathedral.org.uk).
